ETOBICOKE, ONTARIO, CANADA - THN Programming is pleased to announce
the June 1996 release of FILES2TG v1.10.wb1. This new release will
replace all existing versions of FILES2TG.EXE and IEBBS.EXE.
Version 1.10 has been re-written 100% from scratch using modular
Pascal and Assembly coding. This new version is designed to deal
with and eliminate any problems experienced with previous versions.
For more information (at a glance) on FILES2TG v1.10, please read
the following product information statement.
____________
INTRODUCTION
When Telegard 3.0 came into existance, there were a massive amount of
handy utilities for Telegard 2.7 which were obsolete. FILES2TG.EXE,
originally part of the Telegard Utilities package (v1.4?) was one
such utility. This utility was widely used by software distribution
networks.
FILES2TG v1.0 had been rewritten for Telegard 3.0. Over time it was
fixed and patched as needed, however stability was called to question.
FILES2TG v1.10 (this new version) has been 100% rewritten from scratch
in order to eliminate any outstanding problems in v1.00.

WHAT IS FILES2TG?
FILES2TG will read the DOS file FILES.BBS (or FILES.BB1 .. FILES.BB9)
in the download directory of all or a specified file area, and import
the files specified in the FILES.BB? into the Telegard 3 file record.
This utility is useful for persons using file distribution systems.
This product is named after Martin Pollard's FILES2TG.EXE which was
written for Telegard 2.7, and distributed as part of the Telegard 2.7
utilities package.
_____________
REQUIREMENTS?
FILES2TG.EXE is programmed to require the following:
HARDWARE:
■ AT-Compatible Bios,
■ 80+ Kilobytes of RAM. It is highly recommended that
FILES2TG.EXE never is run with less than 172 Kilobytes free
conventional RAM. More free memory makes file moving much
quicker.
■ A monitor capable of 80x25 (colour or mono)
■ A hard drive (obviously)
SOFTWARE:
■ MS-DOS (or 100% compatible) Vsn 3.30 or better.
■ SHARE.EXE loaded {*}
■ Telegard 3.0/Gamma Bulletin Board operating System.
■ Files processor capable of producing a standard ASCII
FILES.BBS control file (ie: Allfix[R]).
______________________
NEW ADDITIONS IN v1.10
■ Implementation of one-area-only scan/import system. It
is now possible to scan and/or import files in a specific
file area (/B"???" command-line option).
■ Ability to read from a FILES.BBS (or FILES.BB1..FILES.BB9)
in a directory alternate to the file area's download path
(/A"???" command-line option).
■ Implementation of a SysOp notification function that posts
an execution receipt in SHORTMSG.DAT. This receipt can
be disabled via the /H command-line option.
■ Ability to define file status flags for imports on the
command-line. This means you can instruct FILES2TG to
import files as "validated", and/or "freedl", and/or
"notimecheck" using the /P"???" command-line option.
■ Ability to purge duplicate files as opposed to simply
moving them to a specific directory (/V command-line option.
■ Ability to ignore cd-rom/area volume labels using the /W
command-line option.
■ A long-description line wrapping system for all FILES.BB?
descriptions.
■ Support for bios-driven screen I/O by way of the /Z
command-line option.
■ Ability to define a duplicate file moving pathspec by way
of the DOS environmental variable "FTGDUPE".
■ Improved, centralized duplicate logging system (as opposed
to previous .DUP files).
■ Improved, more informative FrontDoor style usage activity
logging system, as opposed to non-informative proprietory
log style of the past.
■ Relaxed and Improved support for a variety of FILES.BB?
adaptations (ahem, deviations from the standard format).
■ Ability to support up to 50 lines of file description
from either FILES.BB? or FILE_ID.DIZ/DESC.SDI.
■ Better file handling for the best performance under
file-sharing situations.
■ Many hundreds of countless internal coding improvments
such as true modularity, and stream-lined assembly coding.
________
FEATURES
Aside from the above new features, FILES2TG.EXE also has:
■ Automatic recognition (and default skipping) of file areas
marked as CD-Rom media. This option can be toggled by a
command-line parameter.
■ Automatic and complete truncation of used FILES.BBx textual
control files. This option can be toggled by a command-line
parameter.
■ Support for FILE_ID.DIZ or DESC.SDI textual description file
within any archive considered valid by Telegard. FILES2TG
will use up to 50 lines (45 chars per line) for FILE_ID.DIZ
or DESC.SDI descriptions. There is also an option NOT to
import any FILE_ID.DIZ or DESC.SDI description files.
■ Memory swapping to EMS/XMS/DISK before extracting a FILE_ID
DIZ or DESC.SDI. Memory swap locations can be defined from
the command line.
■ Support for FILES.BBS, FILES.BB1..FILES.BB9 textual control
files. These files can be of any length, and contain any
standard (| ; : +) extended description characters. There
is an option to ignore any extended descriptions by using a
command line parameter.
■ Option to clean (normalize) description casings. Casing
normalization takes the first letter of each "word" in the
description and upper-cases the first character while lower
casing all other characters. For example, normalized casing
of "THe WHoSiN ANsi PAK" would be "The Whosin Ansi Pak"
■ Ability to import files missing (contained in the FILES.BB?
but not in the DOS pathspec) as offline entries.
■ Complete duplicate file checking, and moving using the TG3
FILES.IDX system.
■ Ability to update (refresh) existing files with new arrivals.
■ Ability to strip any ~xx/`xx/|xx coding from descriptions &
strip non printable (ascii 001 to 031 and 127 to 255) chars
from descriptions. This is done via command line arguments.
■ Ability to change uploader name though the command line.
■ Ability to automatically calculate file points if your
system is setup to use the file-point system.
■ Relaxed command line system with easy to understand, logical
argument designators.
■ No registration fee required, now or ever.
■ No configuration or INI files needed. CONFIG.TG is found
automatically and used accordingly.
